Something about this summer night feels crisp,
Almost like the leaves during autumn
Yet there is no chill which might signify the changing of season.

Congratulations to the winners of The Flame team writing contest!

The winning student team was Liza Peery, Virginia Parks, Erin Anderson, Lindsey Kornblau, Nicolette Lerch, and Morgan Baggeson for their manuscript that begins with "My Dearest Jane." Of their winning story, the judges, and Middle School teachers, Mr. George Wickham and Mrs. Debbie Miller, said. "The writers cleverly use a series of letters and period details to portray a budding Victorian romance, but when a sinister figure joins the correspondence, we watch the romance dissolve into a dark and desperate struggle." Read the winning story in our fiction section. You'll also find last year's winning entry, by Team Roster, there as well.

Also, congratulations to the faculty winner, Team Yowzah (Dr. Little, Ms. Markiewicz, Mr. Follansbee, Ms. Barker, and Ms. LaMontagne) for their team story, "Dimitri." Of their story, the judges, Middle School teachers Mr. George Wickham and Mrs. Debbie Miller, said, "The writers create an eerie and powerful sense of how the past can weigh on later generations, how secrets can paralyze, and how, at times, there is no resolution, just the passage of time, the fading of memories, and the loss of secrets they hold." You'll also find this story in our fiction section.

Inspired: A Song Project

In this project students studied the work of abstract expressionists and then created their own art inspired by a song. Their work mimics the overall structure of the music, following the path of one or more musical instruments, or the work evokes the mood of the music.
